On the eve of jacindaardern's last day as the Prim

On the eve of jacindaardern's last day as the Prime Minister of #NewZealand, I am reflecting on some of the words from her resignation.

"I am not leaving because it was hard. Had that been the case I probably would have departed two months into the job!

I am leaving because with such a privileged role, comes responsibility. The responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead, and also, when you are not.

I know what this job takes, and I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice. It is that simple."

Jacinda is the same age as me.
We both have 4 year old daughters.
We have both had heavy loads during the pandemic (although hers was 1000% times greater than my mine as she is the Prime Minister of a Country).

It was simply time to refill her tank and her opportunity to step down to a more manageable work load was not available to her as Prime Minister.

It is for this reason that I push so hard in my work at #WNORTH to ensure women have flexible and non-traditional work models that work for them and allow them to participate in the economy in a way that benefits all. Whether it is a Roleshare, #RemoteWork or the #GigEconomy, everyone deserves the opportunity to keep a seat at the table.

WNORTH's mission is to develop more women to leading positions in business, and in doing so we will elevate the teams they work in, the families they lead and the communities in which they live. Developing more women to leading positions in business will look different in 2023, 2024 and beyond. It's time we recognize that the old models aren't working for us any more.

We don’t always need to go outside our way to support those around us. Sometimes, it’s as simple as looking for a person that could use an extra connection, support or advice in or outside of your organization. Alone, we can’t do so little. Together, we can do so much.

Tip: Join a community in or outside of your organization that will connect you with women looking for resources.
