Workshop: Early Detection Saves Lives – Breast Cancer Awareness with Dr. Paula Gordon

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – and we have the honor to welcome Dr. Paula Gordon, one of the greatest Canadian specialists in breast cancer detection and diagnosis, to The Members’ Club at WNORTH.

There is a lot of confusing and conflicting information about breast cancer screening. This workshop is designed to empower women by offering accurate and current information so that they can take charge of their breast health and receive optimal breast screening.

The first 30 minutes will cover Dr. Gordon’s workshop, and the remaining time will be used as a Q&A session. Take part in this unique opportunity to speak to an expert.

Dr. Gordon will cover the following topics:

• What is Cancer?
• Signs of cancer, what should I look for?
• Importance of Early detection
• What is Breast Cancer Screening?
• What are Dense Breasts?

About Dr. Paula Gordon

Dr. Paula Gordon is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Radiology at theUniversity of British Columbia. She is Emeritus Medical Director of the Sadie Diamond Breast Program at BC Women’s Hospital. She’s a fierce advocate for advancing physicians’ and women’s knowledge of breast health and screening options.

Her mission is for as many breast cancers as possible, to be detected early, to give women more options for less aggressive therapy, and to reduce breast cancer mortality.

She was named one of Canada’s 100 most powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network and was called “one of the greatest Canadian specialists in breast cancer detection and diagnosis” by the Ministry for the Status of Women, on the occasion of the International Day of Radiology.

She also volunteers as Medical Advisor to Dense Breasts Canada and DenseBreast-Info.org and volunteers as Director on the Board of the Canucks for Kids fund. In recognition of her contributions to the field of breast imaging, she was made a Fellow of the Society of Breast Imaging.

Among her many awards, she was awarded the BCChildren’s and Women’s Hospital Award of Excellence in Education, a Killam Teaching Prize from the University of British Columbia, the Honorary Medical Alumni award by the UBC Medical Alumni Association, a Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal, and was invested in the Order of British Columbia.
