Esther Wojcicki is the founder of the Palo Alto High Media Arts Program and the 2002 California Teacher of the Year; a recipient of the Gold Key by Columbia Scholastic Press Association; a 2009 MacArthur Foundation Research Fellow; and the 2011 Charles O’Malley Award recipient from Columbia Scholastic Press. Dr. Wojcicki was Chair of Creative Commons, Chair of PBS Learning Matters, and on the Board of the Freedom Forum, the Newseum, the Alliance for Excellent Education, and multiple other organizations. She advises numerous edtech companies, including EdSurge, Hapara, Shmoop and Planet3, as well as the U.S Department of Education, the Hewlett Foundation, the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching, Silicon Valley Education Foundation, and Time Magazine Education. She founded the Journalistic Learning Initiative at the University of Oregon and holds three honorary doctorates.
