Janet Stone

Global Ambassador – Yoga, Lululemon

Janet Stone’s studentship began at 17 under the meditation teachings of Prem Rawat. His reverence for simplicity and finding joy in the rise and fall of life live on in her practice and teaching today. She shares from the alchemy of her own sadhana through bhakti yoga and the eight-limbed path. In 1996, she traveled to India, the birthplace of her grandfather, and became dedicated to the path of yoga. Based in Bali and San Francisco, she leads immersions, retreats, workshops and more.

IN JANET’S WORDS:

I grew up on a wonderful, slightly crazy hippie farm in Northern California, a childhood spent rescuing orphaned animals of every shape and size, eating a lot of tofu and homemade everything, cleaning rabbit cages, bailing hay, working hard, swimming naked, dancing around freely and feeling naturally connected to the planet, a feeling that informs my life and my teaching even now. My early college years were spent in many delicious places, including a transformative stint wandering around Paris, tasting every pastry, followed by large gulps of the great outdoors in Boulder, Colorado. From there it was on to my first career in Los Angeles, where I spent 11 inspiring years in film and TV production.

My “yoga” moment came in 1996, when I up and left the Hollywood scene and spent the next year and a half on a life-changing solo journey around the world, from New Zealand to Egypt, land to northern India (where I first explored yoga and began my formal training), all of which led me to a deep, personal transformation on many levels. Time and fate somehow guided me back to Northern California, the region of my childhood, in 2001, where I settled in San Francisco to raise my amazing girls and open an enormous window to a new journey as a mother and a yoga teacher, a journey that continues with joy, gratitude, and a willingness to show up every day.

PLACES I LOVE

Here. Nepal, India, Thailand, Bali, Byron Bay (Australia), Mexico, Egypt, Paris, Golden Gate Park in the spring, Little Dume beach in Malibu, Santa Cruz, my own backyard with India and Lilianna when the sun is shining (all too rare in San Francisco), and anywhere in a hammock.
